How I got started

Hello, my name is Bobby Saul, and I am a web developer. My interest in computers started while I was attending Wittenberg University (2013-2017). There I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. I decided Computer Science after taking the first course where I first learned to code and fell in love with problem solving and the creativity within this field.

My introduction to web related things happened while I had an internship for the Wittenberg IT. I was responsible for developing a web dashboard for the campus registrar. I used c#, asp.NET, and Microsoft SQL to obtain and display the proper information concerning students and courses to authorized users.

What I learned

I was fortunate to accept a web development position at a business located near my home town immediately after graduating. Here I learned about working with agile teams and a little bit about marketing along with more of the web technologies that I use today. This is where I became passionate about Drupal as it is the primary framework my team uses.

Through the years I also learned and picked up many other technologies including Git, HTML, PHP, CSS, SASS, JavaScript, React, Node.js, Docker, Kubernetes, and more. I am usually seen as a backend developer by my team because of my work with PHP, though I think many people would consider what I do as frontend.

What I do

Every year around October I like to participate in Southwest Ohio Givecamp. This is a weekend long event that brings together nonprofit organizations and web developers. From Friday until Sunday, teams set out to create or improve the website or other software project for a nonprofit. I was introduced to this my first year after graduating and have tried participating every year since.

Recently I've been getting into making browser based games. You can find some of my projects on GitHub or Itch.io.

Outside of computers I am using playing or watching sports, my favorite being football and baseball. I played both growing up through high school, and football during my four years at Wittenberg University. I, also, like to run and play disc golf as of recently.
